04 Mar The new cover stars
For a long time magazine covers have been reserved for movie stars and pop singers, but with the new crop of young supermodels storming the fashion world, all that is changing.
Now, in place of classic beauties like Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie, you’ll find fresh-faced models staring out at you from the pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and ELLE. Perhaps it will be Gigi Hadid transfixing you with her brilliant blue eyes or the long-legged Kendall Jenner. Either way the trend is clear: models are making a comeback as cover stars and we’re not the only ones who have noticed.
Two weeks ago, model Karlie Kloss posted an image to her instagram of six magazines on a newsstand. The accompanying caption read:
“I could not be more proud of what I see on the newsstand right now…. Models on COVERS! What a wonderful and refreshing sight! So proud of my friends on these major accomplishments!”
So what do these young models possess that have allowed them to steal the limelight back from Hollywood celebrities?
To begin with, these girls aren’t afraid to be open with the media and share their ambitious goals for the future nor do they confine themselves to any one category. In fact, they’re creating a new hybrid type of model who flits between high fashion and commercial with ease.
Furthermore, these new models love social media and, having grown up in the digital age, know how to use it drawing in millions of followers from across the globe.
Becoming more and more recognised by their first names alone and with plenty of personality, you can expect to see a lot more of Gigi, Kendall, Cara, Karlie and all of their friends in the near future.
