21 May MET GALA – MANUS x MACHINA – FASHION IN THE AGE OF TECHNOLOGY
By Sherena (HUSH Intern)
THE MET GALA, the event that we all stalked online, we all had our Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook on refresh. Really we could not avoid it and why would we, it was amazing!
The fashion choices this year took it to whole other level. The theme ‘Manus x Machina- Fashion in the age of Technology’ let us know that we were all in for a treat.
We followed various fashion designers on Snapchat and they showed us what we could expect; Marchesa we’re looking at you, a stunning princess-esque gown with its own lights incorporated. Claire Danes donned Zac Posen’s creation which was a show stopping ball gown worn by none other than Claire Danes.
Here are our just some of our favourite outfits from the evening.
Emma Watson dressed in Calvin Klein. Emma really used the age of technology aspect of the theme embracing her environmental roots with her pants being entirely made of recycled plastic bottles. We expected nothing else from the UN Women Goodwill ambassador. Love it!
Karolina Kurkova, dressed in Marchesa, lit up the red carpet with LED lights embedded in her dress. The Marchesa team teamed up with IBM’s Watson and created a dress where the lights would change colour according to how people were responding to the dress on social media. Talk about a technological advancement in fashion!
Claire Danes dressed in Zac Posen also lit up the red carpet, a real life Cinderella moment.
Will.i.am dressed to meet the brief wearing a device that acts as a virtual assistant sewn into his collar. Very cool!
Zayn wore a Versace black suit with silver metal sleeves giving a robot look, although we think he’s more of a knight in shining armour.
We like how he coordinated with Gigi as she wore a Tommy Hilfiger body suit with a sheer overlay. Relationship outfit goals right there. Check out her cool rings!
