23 Jan Guide to a Sydney Summer Long Weekend
Yet again, Sydney is providing the goods for the long weekend ahead, with so many exciting things to do and see. If you’re planning to stay in town this weekend we suggest exploring Sydney’s beautiful backyard and checking out all the exciting events, eats and culture that Sydney has to offer.
Friday:
To ease your self into the weekend, we recommend heading to the American Express Open-Air Cinema in Bondi. Grab a pizza provided by Salts Meats and Cheese, a few cheeky drinks from 4Pines Brewery and settle into a movie to end the working week on a high.
Saturday:
With Saturday being Australia Day there is plenty to do and see around Sydney. Start the day at the Yabun Festival in Victoria Park, Glebe – this event is also known as ‘Survival Day Gathering’ and provides a great opportunity to celebrate Australia’s first people. Traditional Indigenous dance and music will take place in the park, as well as market stalls, kids activate, arts and more.
On top of this, we suggest indulging in a bottomless brunch at The Royal Hotel in Paddington (includes all your favourite Aussie food faves), Australia Day Live at Sydney Opera House, Australia Day fireworks over Sydney Harbour and the “Ferrython” for something a little different.
Sunday:
Head to Artspace in Woolloomooloo to see ‘Just Not Australian” a compilation of classic Australian cinema that aims to challenge Australian mythology and features 20 artist challenging Australian identity through their work.
After your dose of arts and culture head to your nearest beach or park to bask in the sun with the BBQ and Triple J’s Hottest 100 cranking. You might find us doing just this at Neilson Park, known to be one of Sydney’s local hotspots.
Monday:
If you’ve been lucky enough to score the day off this could be the perfect chance to take on one of the many scenic walks in and around Sydney. These are some of our favourites:
- The Hermitage Foreshore Walk
- Manly to Spit Walk
- Bondi to Coogee Walk
- Barrenjoey Lighthouse Walk
- Royal Botanic Gardens
Have a great weekend!
