Skiers and snowboarders queuing up since 7:30am for the season’s first day, looking to get a taste of the first fresh tracks of the season. Dust off those old snowboard boots for some of the crispiest powder Australia’s Snowy Mountains have to offer.
Perisher Snow Resort, in particular, saw 13 lifts open across Perisher and Smiggin Holes including the Perisher Express to mid station – Yew! “Stormin Norman” is nearing its end with clearer weather forecasted for the upcoming weeks.
Conditions have been perfect for the slopes, but for those days in the village, here’s how to keep warm this snow season, off the slopes:
Jackets: Seems obvious, but choose something WARM and waterproof. Gone are the days of sleek and sexy – it’s 2018 and outrageous is in. Expect to see bright colours and lots of them. This winter, street style crowd has embraced reds, blues, greens and pinks this year and following suit feels so right.
Layering: Make like Joey Tribbiani (the one where he wears all Chandler’s clothes at once) and step up the layering game. The snow is cold, so dress appropriately – don’t be a hero. Layering allows for more creativity, a little eccentricity, and usually means less skin is on display. Be creative. Think outside the box. What can be paired together? Experiment with various options. Sensible is fashionable!
Not to mention, you’ll need the option to take layers off once you’ve made your way into those heated bars or clubs.
Pants: Skirts are great for summer and dresses are pretty, but pants have never (ever) let us down. Warmth is your friend, and modesty comes hand in hand, so full length, fitted styles will keep you toasty off the slopes. From high waists and fun prints to new washes and unexpected silhouettes, pants are making the rounds as the cool-girl favourite for any occasion on and off the snow.
Boots: It’s all about waterproofing, either in a fur-lined lace-up or moon-boot style. Leave the leather knee-highs at home.
